DEBATE.........(we won)

I won the debate! My side won because we had the facts and we supported our opinions too. My side was against employers who will not hire you if you smoked. The other team kept saying that they can refuse the right to hire them because of the whole "insurance issue."

SMOKERS...HIRED?

I have worked at this job for 2 months and they new I smoked when I started and it was no problem, but now some of the other employees are starting to bug me about it. Telling me to quit (which yes I know I need to) and just really buggin the piss out of me. Well, today the boss called me into his office and gave me a employee handbook which NOW states that there is to be no smoking in the building (which I knew that duh!) or on the premises at all. WHAT!? It's not just that he has been calling me into his office alot lately as if he is trying to make me quit instead of having to fire me. He also added in the handbook no outside work or anything else that would hinder your perfromance in the workplace. HELLO! I go to school at night.so what? am I just supposed to quit school too? What can I do when this is supposed to be an EOE?

Answers:

Asking you not to smoke on the premises is reasonable, but your employer implying to you that you're not allowed to smoke on your own time is absolute bulls****. Are you not allowed to get pregnant or eat fatty foods? Where do we draw the line? See, if your boss had made it clear before he hired you that he didn't want any employees who smoked at work or on their free time, then you would have had the choice at the time to accept or reject the employment offer. But now that you're working there, your boss is trying to impose new rules on your employment contract. I think that's pathetic, but you probably can't do much about it.

FAT SMOKERS!

An employer can refuse to hire anyone they want. I believe that if the employer smokes he probably wouldn't care if you smoked too. He wouldn't discriminate against a smoker if he is a smoker himself. He would most likely just ask you to not smoke while on the clock.

I think an employer could refuse to hire an obese person because if the job the person wants requires a lot of physical things an obese person probably wouldn't be able to perform the certain tasks. If the job is like an office job or a job where the person is just sitting most of the time I am sure that the employer wouldn't care how obese the person was.

The problems that I had yesterday were very minimal. The only problem I had was thinking of different establishments to call. I couldn't come up with a lot of people to contact.

JOB EXPO

The article we read was about how they had a job fair because of so many unemployed people. The job fair had about 10,000 people show up and the job fair had roughly 5,000 jobs available. The fair was a great success. A lot of people are out of jobs so thats why a huge amount of people came to the expo.

FIRST POST OF THE 3RD 6 WEEKS!!!

The seating arrangement will even out the classroom. Not just one side of the class will be working all of the time. It will be more balanced and I will try to contribute and help those around me and ask for help too.

3 good and 3 badddddddddd.

I am a good employee because I am on time, I pay attention, and I learn things fast. I am never late to this class and I learn the things that we talk about easily and I am pretty good with computer stuff.

The things that make me a bad employee is that I am impatient. I want to do things fast and get them over with. I am not very professional all the time. There is times where I am but there are also times where I am not.

BPA MEETING!

At the meeting we need to talk about the requirements needed to be in the chapter. We should also try to only accept the students who are willing to really compete.

I would like to do number (64) Interview Skills. I want to do that one because I feel like I have great interview skills and I can offer a lot in that area. I would also like to do number (70) as the team one. Its Presentation Management Team, I think it will be very fun and quite easy.
I think I will benefit a lot from being a member in the BPA. It teaches us how to be leaders and how to run our own business. I am very excited about starting this organization at our school because it is going to teach us a lot of new things.

There were many good things about our career expo. First good thing was that the students were quite interested in what we were doing. Next good thing was that our exhibitors brought a lot of information with them. The last good thing was that everyone in our class was present at the expo.

There were also some bad things about our career expo. The first bad thing was not a lot of students came to the career expo. Also, not very many parents were talking with the exhibitors. Also, the exhibitors were leaving kind of early.

I would suggest that next time we invite more students from around the area. We should also try to invite more companies. The last thing we should have done was get the parents more involved.

My concerns are that there might not be enough exhibitors at our expo because not everyone has called us back.

Today I followed up on Helen Of Troy. I called asking for alfonso and the woman transferred the call and he didn't answer so then I had to leave a message. I told him that I had sent him a fax and to please call me back asap. I looked for some home health care places. One man just hung up on me and the other one said no. Then I called on more place and then i left them a message and told them to call me back to the phone here in class.

It is sooooooooo hard to get businesses to commit to come to our career expo because some of the places we call do not even bother to ask their managers if they are interested. Some of them are very rude and they do not seem to care about what we are trying to do for our community. We are doing a great thing and these businesses need to realize that. (VERY FRUSTRATED)

I HAVE A LOT OF CAREERS I WANNA PURSUE. I WILL MOST LIKELY BECOME A HIGH SCHOOL MATH TEACHER AND I WILL OWN MY OWN BUSINESS.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

I learned a lot while I was calling all those people. I learned that you have to be very professional while talking to all these different people. You cant get nervous either.
