SMOKERS...HIRED?

I have worked at this job for 2 months and they new I smoked when I started and it was no problem, but now some of the other employees are starting to bug me about it. Telling me to quit (which yes I know I need to) and just really buggin the piss out of me. Well, today the boss called me into his office and gave me a employee handbook which NOW states that there is to be no smoking in the building (which I knew that duh!) or on the premises at all. WHAT!? It's not just that he has been calling me into his office alot lately as if he is trying to make me quit instead of having to fire me. He also added in the handbook no outside work or anything else that would hinder your perfromance in the workplace. HELLO! I go to school at night.so what? am I just supposed to quit school too? What can I do when this is supposed to be an EOE?

Answers:

Asking you not to smoke on the premises is reasonable, but your employer implying to you that you're not allowed to smoke on your own time is absolute bulls****. Are you not allowed to get pregnant or eat fatty foods? Where do we draw the line? See, if your boss had made it clear before he hired you that he didn't want any employees who smoked at work or on their free time, then you would have had the choice at the time to accept or reject the employment offer. But now that you're working there, your boss is trying to impose new rules on your employment contract. I think that's pathetic, but you probably can't do much about it.

FAT SMOKERS!

An employer can refuse to hire anyone they want. I believe that if the employer smokes he probably wouldn't care if you smoked too. He wouldn't discriminate against a smoker if he is a smoker himself. He would most likely just ask you to not smoke while on the clock.

I think an employer could refuse to hire an obese person because if the job the person wants requires a lot of physical things an obese person probably wouldn't be able to perform the certain tasks. If the job is like an office job or a job where the person is just sitting most of the time I am sure that the employer wouldn't care how obese the person was.

The problems that I had yesterday were very minimal. The only problem I had was thinking of different establishments to call. I couldn't come up with a lot of people to contact.

JOB EXPO

The article we read was about how they had a job fair because of so many unemployed people. The job fair had about 10,000 people show up and the job fair had roughly 5,000 jobs available. The fair was a great success. A lot of people are out of jobs so thats why a huge amount of people came to the expo.

3 good and 3 badddddddddd.

I am a good employee because I am on time, I pay attention, and I learn things fast. I am never late to this class and I learn the things that we talk about easily and I am pretty good with computer stuff.

The things that make me a bad employee is that I am impatient. I want to do things fast and get them over with. I am not very professional all the time. There is times where I am but there are also times where I am not.
